Build Inbound Links and Increase Your Traffic

To rank highly in search engine results pages for any competitive keyword or phrase you need a strong base of inbound links. Links are the connecting blocks of the internet. They are at the root of search engine ranking algorithms, because measuring the links that point to a web page is a good way of estimating how popular, trusted and authoritative that web page is. Of course, it isn't so simple as counting the number of inbound links. Search engines evaluate inbound links on a variety of factors, including:

The old link building model had webmasters emailing other webmasters and asking very nicely to exchange links with them. This worked in the early days because webmasters weren't constantly inundated with link exchange requests. It was a simple, if tedious, process, and those who put the time into building links this way were often rewarded with good search rankings and a resulting inflow of targeted traffic. It is simply not that easy anymore.

Traditional link building still works for some links - especially when the site you're trying to get a link from is highly relevant website to your own. However, emailing anyone and everyone begging them to link to you is a waste of your time.

What is link baiting?

Link baiting is essentially the act of creating high-quality content at your own site and then promoting that content to other webmasters in the hope that they'll link to it. Since your link bait will be on-topic with your website and sites that will want to link to it will also be quite relevant (in most cases) you can gain a lot of high-quality links to your site that you might not have otherwise.

It's easier said than done, however, in most cases. Successful link baiting means being able to identify a gap of information in the marketplace, formulating a solid strategy to fill that gap, executing with clever, well-written copy, a well-built tool, extensive research or other content that will be attractive to users and, finally, knowing where to go and who to tell about your great new content.

Needless to say, a lot of preparation and work goes into a good piece of link bait. However, the results can be exponentially better than traditional link building methods.
