the "Search Engine Submission" Scam

"We'll submit your site to thousands of search engines."

We cringe every time hear/see an SEO company offering this so-called "service" to their prospecting and existing clients. Major search engines for years have not needed for webmasters to "submit" their websites. Search engine crawlers (the automated programs that index web content so the engine can query it) follow links to make their way around the internet. If your site has links pointing to it from pages the crawler visits the crawler will find your site. On top of this,

"Search Engine Submission" also opens the door for spam.

Many so-called "search engines" that allow webmasters to submit their site with promises that they'll refer traffic to the site's pages requrie users to also include their contact information. The problem? Many of them will then either sell your information to a third party who will spam you or spam you themselves.

Remember that if your SEO company is doing their job correctly no search engines will ever need to be told about your website. With permanent and high-quality inbound links, SEO-friendly code and relevant content your pages will be found by the search engines that matter.
